Winners of the Community Engagement Award 2019
We are officially award winning solicitors – winners of the Community Engagement award at the Taunton Deane Business Awards (TDBA). This is mainly due to the work we do in supporting our fantastic community and the charities within it.
As you may or may not know, we had entered the Taunton Deane Business Awards twice before. The first time in Community Engagement, the second time in Best Employer. Both of which we were shortlisted as ‘finalists’ for and we came runners up.
Despite ‘finalist’ still being an excellent achievement (and certainly nothing to turn your nose up at) we just thought we’d leave the awards alone, for the time being anyway. We’re not ones for blowing our own trumpet – we believe strongly in the success of ‘word of mouth’. We guess you could say, we prefer other people to blow our trumpet!
However, this year is our 10th anniversary and we thought it would be nice to have another award under our belt. With a little encouragement from Pam at White Knight Marketing (the day before the deadline), we decided to go for it. We decided to enter for Community Engagement and put together an application based around our proudest achievement: “Acorn’s Charity Will Week”.
The deadline was at 5pm on 29th March 2019. Our application was submitted at 16:51 on 29th March 2019! Yes, that’s nine minutes before the deadline but a little pressure never hurt anyone! So that was it, our application was submitted. It was a rush but never mind, we had done our best given the circumstances.
On 26th April we had an exciting email from TDBA. It was to say that we had been shortlisted and we were invited to give a presentation in front of three judges. Unlike our application, we decided we would put our presentation together with a little more time to spare! We enjoyed reflecting upon our successes and were delighted to share this with the judges of our category.
And that was it. We had done all we could and just had to wait until 27th July to see if it was enough. The awards ceremony was a black tie event at The Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton. We shared our table with Anthony and Libby Heaton-Jones of CHASE Consulting Ltd, another fantastic company within our community.
And then it was time. Our category was the penultimate category to be announced and the nerves were building. The judges had said it was a unanimous decision.
“The winners of the 2019 Community Engagement Award are …. *drumroll* …. ACORN SOLICITORS!”
Acorn Solicitors had done it, third time lucky! Acorn are, once again, award winning solicitors! We support our community and the charities within it because we truly care. We don’t do it for the recognition or to make us look good. But, who doesn’t enjoy a good old pat on the back and a ‘well done’ once in a while?!
A special thanks goes to the organisers of the Taunton Deane Business Awards. They work so hard all year round to bring the fantastic businesses of Taunton Deane to the spotlight. The organisers help to showcase what a truly excellent place we are part of. Also a huge thank you to the judges and the sponsors who also make the awards what they are.
So, if you’re thinking about entering the awards, DO IT! And if you’ve entered before, DON’T GIVE UP! If we can enter with nine minutes to spare, so can you! However, we do recommend you leave yourselves a little bit more time than we did, maybe ten minutes rather than nine?
